Mini-ring Directory

The table describes all the known mini-rings. The number of bells in the diatonic ring are shown with the number of semitones indicated in parenthesis where applicable. I also maintain a list of portable rings. For more information about any of them either follow the associated link or e-mail me.

Roughly speaking, the criteria for inclusion are that the ring must be under private ownership with a tenor under two hundredweight or, if under public ownership then the tenor must weigh one hundredweight or less.

It has been a exactly a year since this list was updated and many new rings have been installed. You will see that the list has grown: new additions include Billington, a new Higby octave. Six of the pots from Old Langho have gone to Colne and are replaced by ten new ones. The Bishops-Ting-Tong has now moved to its intended home after a brief stay in Kingsteignton as the Kings-Ting-Tong and the list sees the addition of the first unringable mini-ring at Kingswood!

Three rings have been dismantled: The Summer House Campanile, Shepton Mallet, the Brockenhurst Campanile and the remarkable Hillbrow Campanile in Liss where it all started. All is not lost however, since Roger Barber is currently rehanging his portable octave in a permanent location in West Liss and augmenting to twelve. The Red Light Ring has moved from Southampton to Clevedon with a visit to Ringing Roadshow on the way. Leigh End have been augmented and has a new website - in fact many website links have been updated.

Finally, if anyone can fill in missing details or provide me with information about the three near Tavistock or anything else that is not included, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Matthew Higby has various bells and fittings lying around his workshop so if you are interested you might wish to contact him.

Those marked '+' are ceramic bells and those marked '*' are under construction.
